Ingredients for a Happy Marriage

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness," - Galatians 5:22 NKJV

"(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth;)" - Ephesians 5:9 NKJV

Have you ever tried to make your favorite desert, like a cake or pie, and after you made it you found out that you forgot to put in an ingredient and when you tasted it, it did not taste good? That is how a lot of marriages end up. You meet each other and you say you fell in love, you get married and after a few months you go through some trails and you forget how you felt when you first met. We counsel a lot of Christian marriages and we see this a lot. They forget that they are two different people who think differently and instead of talking to each other they talk at each other. They put selfish demands on each other instead of reacting in the fruit of the spirit. In a Christian marriage you are not supposed to be lead by your emotions, but by the spirit of God. The main ingredient in the Christian marriage relationship is the fruit of the spirit, which is the very nature of Christ you received when you accepted Jesus into your heart. You will need to develop a closer relation with Christ during your marriage, because God will use the tests and trails of your marriage to bring you closer to Him and to your spouse. These tests and trails are not meant to destroy you but to build you up in Him and with everyone you overcome your love for each other will grow. Remember what Jesus said in John 16:33, "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” If you are lead by the spirit of God and not by your emotions, you will see your love for each other grow and peace will come into your home.
